About This Plant

Botanical name: Zamioculcas zamiifolia
Also known as: ZZ Plant, Zanzibar Gem

Native to Eastern Africa, the ZZ Plant is a low-maintenance houseplant admired for its glossy, dark green leaves and upright growth. It’s famously tolerant of low light, irregular watering, and neglect—making it a go-to for busy plant parents and office spaces. The thick, tuberous roots store water, helping it survive dry spells with ease.

Plant Care Guide

☀️ Light: Tolerates low, medium, or bright indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which may scorch leaves.

💧 Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

🌫️ Humidity: Average home humidity is fine. ZZ Plants are not humidity-sensitive.

📏 Size: Grows up to 2–3 feet tall and wide over time, with slow, upright growth.

🐾 Pet-friendly?: ❌ Not pet-friendly (toxic if ingested)

🪴 Where It Looks Best: Low-light corners, bookshelves, desks, and offices—especially where other plants might struggle.

💡 Pro Tip: If the leaves turn yellow or mushy, you’re likely overwatering. Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even growth.
