About This Plant
About This Plant
Botanical name:Hoya Quinquenervia
Also known as: Wax Plant
Hoya quinquenervia is a beautiful and distinctive Hoya species native to the Philippines, prized for its glossy green foliage and prominent longitudinal veins. Its elegant vines can be allowed to trail naturally or trained to climb a trellis, making it an excellent addition to a Hoya collection. Mature plants can also produce clusters of delicate, fragrant flowers under favorable conditions.
For best growth, provide bright, indirect light and a loose, well-draining potting mix. Allow the soil to partially dry between waterings and avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.
Plant Care Guide
Plant Care Guide
☀️ Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sun is usually fine, but protect from harsh direct afternoon sunlight.
💧 Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil have dried. Allow excess water to drain completely and avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.
🌫️ Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is ideal. It can adapt to normal household humidity but appreciates additional humidity with good airflow.
📏 Size: A climbing or trailing vine that can grow several feet long indoors. Provide a trellis for climbing or allow the vines to cascade naturally.
🐾 Pet-friendly?: ✅ Generally considered pet-safe. Hoyas are commonly regarded as non-toxic to cats and dogs, although pets should still be discouraged from chewing houseplants.
🪴 Where It Looks Best: Hanging baskets, elevated shelves, plant stands, or trained onto a decorative trellis where its distinctive veined foliage can be displayed.
💡 Pro Tip: Use a chunky, well-draining mix and don't rush to repot. Hoyas perform well when their roots aren't sitting in excessive wet soil, and brighter indirect light can help encourage stronger growth and eventual flowering.
