About This Plant
About This Plant
Botanical name: Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’
Also known as: Red African Milk Tree, Cathedral Cactus
An architectural succulent with upright, three-sided stems flushed burgundy to deep wine red. Small teardrop leaves line each ridge, creating a striking candelabra look that anchors sunny rooms with height and structure. Tough and drought tolerant, it brings bold color and sculptural lines to modern spaces with very little fuss.
Plant Care Guide
Plant Care Guide
☀️ Light: Bright light to full sun indoors. More sun brings deeper red coloration.
💧 Water: Let soil dry out fully between waterings. Water sparingly and even less in winter to prevent root rot.
🌫️ Humidity: Average home humidity is perfect. No boosting needed.
📏 Size: Typically 3–6 feet tall and 1–2 feet wide over time. Columnar, upright habit.
🐾 Pet-friendly?: ❌ Not pet-friendly. Milky sap is toxic if ingested and can irritate skin and eyes.
🪴 Where It Looks Best: Sunny windows, entryways, and minimalist or modern corners paired with terracotta or stone planters.
💡 Pro Tip: Use a very fast-draining cactus and succulent mix and a pot with drainage. Rotate monthly for even color. Avoid temps below 55°F and wear gloves if pruning due to latex sap.
