Spider Mites

Spider Mites

Spider mites are tiny arachnids that thrive in hot, dry conditions and can spread quickly on houseplants. They pierce plant cells and suck out sap, leaving behind stippled leaves, yellowing, and fine webbing. Almost every plant grower encounters them at some point, but the good news is they are treatable with consistency and care.

1. Inspect and Isolate
Look under leaves for tiny red or yellow dots and fine webbing. Move infested plants away from others.

2. Rinse Thoroughly
Spray the plant with a strong stream of water, focusing on the undersides of leaves to knock mites off.

3. Wipe or Wash Leaves
Use a damp cloth or shower the plant to remove dust, webbing, and mites.

4. Soap or Neem Spray
Apply a solution of mild soap or neem oil mixed with water to coat the leaves. Repeat every 5–7 days.

5. Increase Humidity
Spider mites dislike moisture. Mist plants, use a humidifier, or place a tray of water nearby.

6. Stay Consistent
Check weekly and reapply treatments. With patience, the infestation will fade and plants will recover.
